This space opera reminded me of Star Wars and maybe a bit of Battlestar Galactica. So maybe it makes sense that the author has a degree in film. The lurching from crisis to crisis, and even the smaller moments between characters feel very visual. It got a little pseudo-jargony in places, but a little hand waving and extra suspension of disbelief will get you past that faster that someone can reverse the polarity in Star Trek. It held my interest and I'll be adding the second one on my to-read list.
