Don't read this without the first book, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. Do read them, though. This is near-future sci-fi, not space adventure or far-future sci-fi. Both were interesting science fiction and thoughtful social commentary. The characters feel very real and have real flaws and grow and change. The first book was not at all what I expected, but in a good way - it surprised me. I didn't get that same rush of being surprised in this one, but it did manage to go off in an unexpected direction.
