This reminded me of Becky Chambers to some extent - character driven, found family, smaller scale SciFi. But it also riffs on foodies, and deals with some fairly dark themes. I devoured it and enjoyed it. However, it did feel at times like many of the characters were more caricature than filled out personalities. A solid effort for my first encounter with this author.
